Preparation Guidelines and General Information
The preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Michael the Archangel Parish involves a summer confirmation camp and several components throughout the year. Our confirmation camp is a weeklong camp held in the second full week of the month of July. We begin our week on a Sunday with a retreat based on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Monday through Thursday the students meet from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with each day focusing on a certain area of faith development.
There are other components that the candidates must attend throughout the year. Our candidates will come together for an Evening of Reflection (Communal Penance Service.) The candiate will meet for a half-hour spiritual direction appointment in early spring. They will also be involved in service experiences.
There are four main requirements for the preparation of Confirmation. First, the candidate must be entering into the 8th grade. Candidates must be registered in and attending SMS, CCD, or approved Home Schooling program throughout their 8th grade year. Candidates must attend the entire Confirmation Camp. Finally, candidates must attend the other components throughout the year.
Because the confirmation camp is the main component of our preparation, it is important that the candidate attend the camp. If you have a scheduling conflict for the year your child would normally prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation, it is recommended that he/she waits until the following year.
