CCD PhilosophyFrom the very beginning, catechesis has been an important ministry of the Church. Jesus mandated his disciples to teach the Good News. Throughout the 2000 years since Jesus taught, the Church has upheld its mission to bring the Good News to all nations. This is witnessed in the catechetical documents of the Church, especially those produced since the Second Vatican Council. These documents and exhortations stress the importance of the catechetical ministry. The St. Michael Parish CCD Program continues the teaching mission of Jesus by providing catechesis to the children of our parish. 1. The CCD Program is established to help students learn and understand the teachings of the Church through weekly sessions. The program adheres to the four fundamental tasks of catechesis as presented in the General Directory of Catechesis: promoting knowledge, liturgical education, moral formation and teaching to pray. 2. The CCD Program uses current curriculum, which adheres to criteria set forth by the Catechetical Documents of the Church. This criteria includes but is not limited to: content which stays true to the sources of Scripture, Tradition and the Magisterium, authentic and complete presentation of the Gospel message, appropriate pedagogy based on age and maturity and the use of information as well as formation. 3. The CCD Program uses volunteer catechists who are dedicated Catholics who understand their faith, are committed to this faith and are filled with zeal to share it with others. 4. The CCD Program recognizes the fact that parents are the primary teachers of their children. It is in the family, the domestic church, where children are first exposed to the love of God and taught to follow Christ. We commit ourselves to cooperate with and assist parents in making the teachings of Jesus viable and meaningful in the lives of their children. Student ExpectationsArrival & Dismissal: Sunday students are to arrive no sooner than 11:00am and Tuesday students no sooner than 6:15pm at the Activity Center. Too many absences disrupt the faith development of the student as well as the class.
