In the Diocese of Toledo, the normative time for candidates to be presented for Confirmation is 8th grade. Children enrolled in the St. Michael the Archangel Parish final preparation for Confirmation program are to be concurrently registered and attending SMS, Discipleship or an approved Homeschool program and have also completed a 7th grade program.
The requirements for the final preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation at St. Michael the Archangel Parish are:
1. Attendance at one of the weekends at Damascus Catholic Mission Campus. A spring option will be offered in the candidate’s 7th grade year and the fall option will be offered in the candidate’s 8th grade year. Parents may choose the dates that work best for their families.
2. Works of Mercy (previously known as service hours)
4. Evening of Reflection
5. Candidate/Sponsor Meetings (done on own time)
6. Faithful participation in a catechetical program (SMS, Discipleship, approved home-school program) during both the 7th and 8th grade years.
Formation sessions for parents will be held in January of the candidate’s 7th grade year. Topics that the diocese recommends covered include, but are not limited to, the theology of Confirmation, role of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Christian, role of works of charity and the rite of confirmation. Parents are required to attend these sessions for their first child. For subsequent children, parents are welcome, but not required to attend. Sponsors are encouraged to attend whenever possible.
