Youth Ministry

It is sometimes said that youth are the future of the Church....but that is false. Youth simply ARE the Church, the same as any of us. The only difference is that they face a unique set of challenges that they grow and discover their identity. This is true today more than ever. Youth are besieged on all levels by the voices of sin, falsity, and worldliness. At St. Michael the Archangel, we want to support youth by helping to root them in the faith, Sacramental life, and morals of Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church.

Youth Ministry at St. Michael the Archangel

We currently have three primary components to our youth ministry program.

  • Highschool Small groups - Various Times
    • These small groups of youth men and women meet every other week (1st and 3rd weeks of the month) on various days/times to delve together into our Catholic faith, to enjoy Catholic fellowship, and to grow together in moral virtue, faith, and understanding. If you are in high school and would like to join a small group, contact Fr. Peter Grodi

  • Fr. Peter's Bible Study - Every 2nd Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the Day Chapel and Streamed on Facebook
    • Every 4th Sunday of the month, Fr. Peter hosts a Bible study. This study explores the deep connections between the Old Testament, the New Testament, the Liturgy, Morality, and our daily lives. While this Bible study is part of the youth ministry program, all are welcome to participate.

  • NIGHT OF WORSHIP - Every 4th Sunday at 7:15 pm in the Main Church
    • The first and foremost thing that every youth, every person needs is a meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ. The rest of our Catholic faith builds upon this. Night of Worship is an hour of Eucharistic Adoration with Praise and Worship Music and reflections. This event is designed to open the hearts of people to the voice of Jesus and invite them to encounter and embrace him as their Lord and Savior.

Summer Opportunities

  • Catholic Youth Summer Camp (CYSC). - For Grades 6-9 and 9-12 (separate retreat opportunities for the two grade sets).
      • So many of our youth have had the wonderful opportunity of attending the Damascus retreat center as they prepare for Confirmation. However, the fun and faith-building opportunities do not end there! They have summer camp opportunities for both high schoolers and middle schoolers.

      •
      •
  • Steubenville Youth Conferences
      • The Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio has long been known for its stellar Summer conferences, not least of which are its weekend youth ministry conferences. Countless high schoolers have found a deeper relationship with Jesus and a firmer understanding of and commitment to their faith at these summer events. Unfortunately, because of various difficulties with staffing and COVID from this last year, our parish will not be sponsoring a trip to a Steubenville conference this summer. However, we hope to do so again in the future, and we encourage youth and their parents to consider a trip on their own.

Resources for Youth

Our Current Highlight on FORMED.ORG - "Why Believe"

The New Evangelization requires a new apologetics, that is, a defense of the faith that responds to the questions that believers and non-believers alike are asking today with philosophical and theological arguments rooted in Sacred Scripture, Catholic Tradition, and the best philosophical reflection available.

Resources for Parents

No matter what happens in the world, no matter how much things change, some things stay the same. One of those things is the simple truth that parents will always be the most influential figures in a child's life. That is why the Church maintains that parents are the primary Catechizers of their children. While we provide opportunities for the Catechizing of youth in our various ministries and our school, we want more than anything to encourage and support you in helping your children become faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Below, you can find links to various resources to help you in this crucial mission.
