Youth Ministry

It is sometimes said that youth are the future of the Church....but that is false. Youth simply ARE the Church, the same as any of us. The only difference is that they face a unique set of challenges as they grow and discover their identity. This is true today more than ever. Youth are besieged on all levels by the voices of sin, falsity, and worldliness. At St. Michael the Archangel, we want to support youth by helping to root them in the faith, Sacramental life, and morals of Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church.

Upcoming and Recent Events!

Youth Ministry at St. Michael the Archangel

We currently have three primary components to our youth ministry program.

  • Highschool Small Groups - Various Times
    • Small groups provide space for teens to delve deepr into our Catholic faith, to enjoy Catholic fellowship, and to grow together in moral virture, faith, and understanding. Students will be able to form a small group with their friends or join one with teens of similar age and interests. There will be an initial 5 week commitment to run through an introductory study, and ajust afterwards according to the needs of the individual members. If you are in high school and would like to join a small group, contact Rachel Henley
  • Monthly Events & NIGHT OF WORSHIP - Every 3rd Sunday
    • Each month will host a larger event night for all high school students. These evenings will have a variety of themes and activities that allow teens to have fun and grow in the community while also going deeper into a particular area of our faith. The evening will end with a parish-wide Night of Worship, which starts at 7:15 pm in the main church. Night of Worship is an hour of Eucharistic Adoration with Praise and Worship Music and reflections. This event is designed to open the hearts of people to the voice of Jesus and invite them to encounter and embrace him as their Lord and Savior.
  • Fr. Peter's Bible Study - Every 2nd Wednesday at 6:00 pm in the St. Joseph Room and Streamed on Facebook
    • Every 2nd Wednesday of the month, Fr. Peter hosts a Bible study. This study explores the deep connections between the Old Testament, the New Testament, the Liturgy, Morality, and our daily lives. While this Bible study is part of the youth ministry program, all are welcome to participate.

Summer Opportunities

  • Catholic Youth Summer Camp (CYSC). - For Grades 6-9 and 9-12 (separate retreat opportunities for the two grade sets).
      • So many of our youth have had the wonderful opportunity of attending the Damascus retreat center as they prepare for Confirmation. However, the fun and faith-building opportunities do not end there! They have summer camp opportunities for both high schoolers and middle schoolers.

Steubenville Youth Conferences

    • The Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio has long been known for its stellar Summer conferences, not least of which are its weekend youth ministry conferences. Countless high schoolers have found a deeper relationship with Jesus and a firmer understanding of and commitment to their faith at these summer events. Keep an eye out for more info on Summer 2022.

Resources for Youth

Our Current Highlight on FORMED.ORG - "Why Believe"

The New Evangelization requires a new apologetics, that is, a defense of the faith that responds to the questions that believers and non-believers alike are asking today with philosophical and theological arguments rooted in Sacred Scripture, Catholic Tradition, and the best philosophical reflection available.

Chastity Project

It is no surprise to anyone that integrity, purity, and self-control in the realm of sexuality are very difficult things these days. And much of this has to do with peer and cultural pressure and misinformation. The best way for us to stay pure and is to understand the dignity of who and what we are and God's plan for us. You will find truly engaging resources with the Chastity Project to help you understand why you should earnestly desire to stay chaste and how to do it.

Resources for Parents

No matter what happens in the world, no matter how much things change, some things stay the same. One of those things is the simple truth that parents will always be the most influential figures in a child's life. That is why the Church maintains that parents are the primary Catechizers of their children. While we provide opportunities for the Catechizing of youth in our various ministries and our school, we want more than anything to encourage and support you in helping your children become faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Below, you can find links to various resources to help you in this crucial mission.

  • Watch Online
    • "The Social Dilemma." This is a very important and very sobering dig into the destructive effects of overconsuming social media. Every parent should have an understanding of these things.

    • Personandidentity.com is an invaluable resource for Parents who wish to become more well-informed concerning gender ideology and transgenderism. It is important to know the false information, know the science, and know how to talk to your children about such things, because the odds are that they are being talked to about it by other people already.
